WHY PADI AWARE SEA TURTLE AWARENESS DISTINCTIVE SPECIALTY COURSE?

The goals of Sea Turtle Awareness course training are to introduce the sea turtle species common in our tropical waters, as well as to familiarize you with the role of Project AWARE in preserving the aquatic environment.  We will also provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to identify turtles and record sightings, and inform you about decline in sea turtle populations, importance of sea turtles to marine biodiversity

and what they can do to reduce the loss of sea turtles worldwide. 

WHAT DO I NEED TO START?

The AWARE Sea Turtle Awareness course has been written to encourage delivery to a broad range of participants. The course may be taught as a dive certification course or a non-dive education program. 

WHAT WILL I DO?

During the Sea Turtle Awareness course you will learn the role of Project AWARE in preserving the aquatic environment. You will learn to assess sites for possible sea turtle sighting areas, observe habitat for hazards and responsibly clean up rubbish where encountered. When sea turtles are located and identified, noting if they are tagged, recording tag number, behaviours, injuries, or any other significant information. You'll also record any sightings on a slate, including diagrams and descriptions of any unfamiliar sea turtle species.

WHAT DO I EARN AT THE END?

By the end of this course you should be knowledgeable, passionate and inspired to act with identifying, reporting and helping to protect the sea turtles. You will learn the ways to become involved in sea turtle conservation by using the materials available in this course.
